Alligator Head

Marigny

One time Aunt Gladys took three of her nieces, Gladys, Rachael and Reyne, swimming. They all noticed the head of an alligator floating on the water. Rachael swam toward it, but then got “creeped out.” She turned around and swam away from it, fast! Next Reyne thought she’d be brave and pull the head to shore. She didn’t last either; she chickened out and swam away from it.

The alligator head floating on the water was an ugly sight. The girls felt like they didn’t even want to touch the thing. That is how God wants us to feel about sin. He wants us to see that it is bad and choose to stay away from it.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The girls probably thought that the alligator head would snap at them. That’s the way sin is; if we fool around with sin it will lead to death. We should steer clear of sin.

Rom 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

When Paul says we should “not let sin reign in our mortal bodies,” he means that we should not let sin be the thing that rules or controls us.

Rom 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

When we are free from sin and we are living for God, we are becoming holy.

Heb 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Just like the alligator head caused Rachael and Reyne to turn away from it, we should turn away from sin when we see it.
