Date with Dad

Alexis loved her daddy very much. On Thursdays she would get up a little earlier than usual. She and her daddy would go to the gas station for breakfast. They would eat doughnuts and have something to drink. Then Alexis was off to school, and Daddy to work. Alexis looked forward to this time. What made it extra special was that Alexis’s younger brother and sister were not yet old enough to “go on dates” with Daddy.

One Thursday morning Daddy explained to Alexis that her excitement about getting to spend time with him is the same way Alexis should look forward every day to her prayer time with God. Daddy showed Alexis a scripture verse.

Ex 34:14 Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

When we trust Jesus as our Savior, God adopts us as his children. Because he is our father, he wants us to make him the most important person in our lives.

David was a man who loved God. This is what he says in Psalm 5:

Ps 5:1 Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my sighing.

David must have had a bad day. He continues his prayer:

Ps 5:2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.

David reminds God that he is praying:

Ps 5:3 In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

In this psalm, David says he prays in the morning. Then he waits to see how God will answer.

Are you excited about being able to talk to God every morning? He wants us to be.
